A trip to Yeosu, our first one!

Hello from Yeosu!

This is us with our friends Mel and Julian down in Yeosu. It's an up and coming city in South Korea, and is going to be holding the World Expo in 2012. A lot of teachers are needed down there so the whole town will be speaking English in 4 years. It's a pretty big deal apparently.

While we were in Yeosu for the weekend, Mel and Jules wanted to show us around the town. It was nice. The downtown is just like the downtown in Gwangju, and the shrines and mountains are all very cool to see. But there is one thing in Yeosu that doesn't exist in Gwangju.

The Turtle Ships!

They are old warships used a few centuries ago, engineered by a great general. There weren't very many, but they were very smart boats. lots of spikes on the top of the turtle ship prevented people from jumping aboard, and the oars were built to move along with the sides of the ship instead of sticking out, so that way they would be more protected.

Troy wanted to show off his Korean he has developed since being here, and decided to order pizza over the phone from Mel and Jules' apartment. Successfully, we got a Pepperoni Pizza and a "Korean Hawaiian" Pizza. After eating, we got back to making our beautiful things out of clay.

Good times with good people. We'll be seeing our friends from Australia soon enough again.

Cheers!
