Extra English Fun!

Along with our regular classroom children that we teach everyweek, Sarah and I also have workshops for teachers. We use the time to help the teachers further grasp all of the nuances with the English language, but we do it in a variety of ways. Sure, there's the basic stuff like conversation, and maybe a little bit of writing or reading, but Sarah is trying to implement some new "clubs" for teachers and students alike. She has one club, the "English Running Club" getting off the ground now. Two times a week right after work, Sarah brings some of her co-teachers and soon a couple of students to the nearby stadium where everyone warms up, talks, runs, and has a good time.

She also wants to do a small English Choir. Teach the students some songs in English and have them give a performance at the end of the school year. I think that sounds like fun!

I have taken an approach as well, but mine only revolves around sports. Once, maybe twice a week, during lunch, I will spend the lunch period (or part of it) playing basketball or volleyball with the students all while we try and speak in english to eachother. So far, we've played 2 games, but they have been very fun. The students seem to enjoy that as well.

Our co-teachers seem to be applauding our efforts right now, which is good because we've found out that in order to have a good teaching experience in Korea, it REALLY helps having awesome co-teachers.

Maybe soon, Sarah will have a small group of students running every week and practicing their English. And maybe I will have some students who can play and talk at the same time.

Good times indeed.

Take care everyone!

Hey Kids...

Sounds like you're getting along well for your first month. Sorry I haven't posted anything recently...been a little bizzy to say the least...Had two appointments today for "windows"... that's my specialty at this time...learning siding, HVAC and "doors"...a slow process for an "old guy" lot's of info to learn...I'm waiting on a call from a "west county lady" tonight about a Large window deal that I wrote up while at their house today...Will tell you if I close it...think I will get the paperwork signed tomorrow a.m. Her husband was there and had to go back to work ...they just kept adding more windows to the deal but, he didn't get to sign it...'nuff about me...

How do you like teaching at different places...sounds like it's Ok and working out...You can learn from each other's curriculum and both benefit...Mut be a wonderful time renewing old frindships and making new ones...that pic with you and the 2 co-teachers was pretty funny looking, Troy...You're so big compared to the other two...I just giggled when I saw it...

Have fun...and, I know you both will...

Luv Ya' Both

Dear Troy and Sarah, we don't know each other but, I'm Paula's best friend in Brazil and have been making a wonderful friendship with Todd. He jsut gave me the link to your blog and I gotta tell you: LOVED IT!!!

I was an english teacher here in Brazil for 10 years! It was so grate! For the past 2 years (almost) I've surrender myself to my love for aviation. Since early 2007 I've been working for BP with the aviation fuel market, as a Safety Operations Analyst. No need to say that is really exciting, right!? ;-)

Well, I'll come back here more times cause I sure want to read it all.

You guys take care up there!

Beijos (kisses in portuguese!)

Korea is really nice! (I've been there in 2002 with my brother, but only for some tourism. He's a Tae Kown Do black belt).
